A fantastic cooler, better than expected, but set your expectations accordingly.First, this cooler looks fantastic on our deck, a piece of furniture that goes very well with our pit smoker from Texas. The item I received has no "white", and the inside of lid is the same galvanized steel as the rest of the inside. LOVE IT!! No weird warping or discoloration later down the road, inside is all steel! This is insulated with styrofoam on all 6 sides behind the steel. The char-log process is explained in an attached card, essentially the wood is kilned to a slight char, and the insides of the legs are intentionally split to prevent any splitting later, preventing mold, mildew, etc. Coated with a light layer of lacquer, it is rustic and gorgeous.Except the bottle opener, the rest of the hardware is all pre-attached and has a great pitted look to it, including side handles for carry, handle for lid, decorative horseshoe/star on front and large star on the lid. Mine is all well-attached. Bottle opener is of the same look, and a flat spot on one leg provides the mounting point. On to the legs. All were straight, and once attached are perfectly level and even, no rocking on one longer leg, etc. HOWEVER, in order to achieve this, I had to use a pocket knife on 2 of the legs and "square off" the inner corners of the pre-cut slots where the legs attach to the body. They weren't quite cut to a sharp 90 degree and we're more a rounded corner and wouldn't snug tightly to the body. Using a pocket knife I simply cut away the bit of rounded corner in the leg to make it a clean angle, and voila, snugged right up to the body correctly for attachment. One leg was splitting from the top on the out-facing side. I used some epoxy, ziptied it tight to hold it while addressed the other 3 legs, and by the time I was ready for the split leg, I cut off the zip tie and the epoxy had set, attached it, and you can't even tell. The legs do have pre-drilled countersunk holes, but there are no predrilled holes on the body. To ensure no troubles with splitting wood when attaching the legs, I had my wife hold a leg in place as it would be attached while I then drilled 6 holes with an appropriately sized bit, through the leg holes and into the cooler. This made for a trouble free installation of the legs and no split wood. Set your drill tension to the lightest setting if you use a phillips bit on your drill to screw them in. This worked perfectly and snuggled everything up permanently with no stripping.Pre-testing. Put it on the deck and filled 1/3 full with the hose and let it sit for 3-4 hours. Not a drop leaked. Drained it and it drained fully leaving about 4 oz of water inside. Wipe it with a towel and all the water is gone! Awesome! We bought a 3' length of black heater hose and a clamp-on replacement garden hose end for the drain. The drain is threaded for a garden hose, has a spigot, and we run the hose out off the deck behind the cooler when draining! On to function! On a 100F day, VERY humid, we had a BBQ, so at 10am we put about 2 cases of bottles and cans in the cooler, and added 4 bags of ice. The ice came up to the longnecks of the bottles.Ice cold all day, and 27 hours later (yes, over a full day!), there are still 10-12 bottles and cans leftover, and easily a bags worth of ice STILL floating around in ice cold water!!!I've wanted one of these for years, finally pulled the trigger on this one and I love it!! It's rustic, so be prepared for some minor flaws, etc, but otherwise this will last a very long time and looks amazing!!One last thing, there is no bottlecap catcher, and none of the actual cup/bin versions I could find would fit without looking ridiculous. HOWEVER, look on Amazon for "magnetic bottle cap" and you will find a few magnetic cap catchers. I bought the circular one, about 1.5" round. Attaches with a single screw, put it about 6" below the opener, and it catches the cap as it falls!!! It's brilliant, looks great on this cooler, works even better, and holds about 30 bottle caps before you have to pull em off....just keeps catching em!! Definitely a must have add-on, and it won't detract from the look whatsoever!Hope you enjoy this as much as we do, it really completes the deck and works every bit as good as the best coolers I've owned if not better.
